The Minimal Synth duo Boy Harsher has shared the single "Machina" from the soundtrack to their upcoming horror movie, The Runner.
Augustus Muller and Jae Matthews, a.k.a. Boy Harsher, have released the third single from the soundtrack to their upcoming horror movie, The Runner, a "horror film intercut with a meta-style "documentary" about Boy Harsher's recording process", as Sacred Bones states. It's called "Machina" and features Mariana Saldaña. The movie will start streaming on the Shudder platform on the 16th of January and the official soundtrack will be released shortly after, on the 21st of January, via Boy Harsher's own label, Nude Club, and City Slang.
Augustus Muller said the following about "Machina", a single inspired by the time he spent in Mexico City, more specifically at the dance club Patrick Miller:
"I was trying to create an artifact from a club in a far-off place and an unknown time. Mariana and I were sending each other old freestyle and Hi NRG videos and just having fun."
"Machina"'s videoclip was directed by the band itself and proves their DIY ethics and versatility in the art world, while also revealing an understanding of the dynamics between image and sound and the possession of the know-how required to materialize said dynamics. This Synthpop track arrives directly from a Cyberpunk-ish future, where Italo Disco and Giallo flicks are trending. It's upbeat and lustily dark at the same time.
